Organic Hydroponic Gardening

How organic hydroponic gardening

Before your project on organic hydroponic gardening ,you should know that a hydroponic garden is one in which there are 2 beds. The upper one is supposed to hold the plants to be grown. A box is used to hold the plants. A medium has to be present in the container to hold the plants too.

The medium able to retain a small amount of water for a long time is said to be the best. You can use lava rock (the best), perlite, rockwool, coconut fiber, Styrofoam pellets and vermiculite as medium.

The lower reservoir holds water, which is rich in nutrients. This water is pumped to the upper bed at regular intervals with the help of an aquarium pump and a timer.

A common problem of hydroponic gardens is maintaining the level of nutrition in water, maintaining the ration of the nutrients and maintaining the pH balance of water.

These are 3 basic things upon which a organic hydroponics or hydroponic garden thrives. When Organic fertilizers are used in the water for maintenance of the above three points, the garden is said to be an Organic Hydroponic Garden.

These organic fertilizers are more forgiving to your plants rather than the chemical fertilizers, which burn your plants if used in excess. After this, nutritional water is absorbed till saturation point by the roots and the growing medium and the plant also absorbs and retains some nutrition.

As a result of this, the parts per million (ppm) of the water that comes back is lesser than that of the water that was present in the reservoir before it was cycled to the upper plant bed.

It is easier to go about hydroponic gardening with organic nutrients rather than diy organic hydroponic compost(man made). As no chemicals are placed in the lower water tank there is no need of maintaining the pH balance or the ppm of the water. As a result of which many of the problems associated with organic hydroponic gardening are eliminated automatically.

The upper primary root section of the plant is specialized for uptake of nutrients and the lower part of the roots specializes in water uptake.

To make organic hydroponic gardening more efficient, the organic hydroponics nutrients can be directly added to the upper part of the roots rather than adding them in the water tank. In order for this happen, you need to create an organic hydroponics system.

The container can be the same as used for hydroponics gardening or you might use a coir fiber container. The container is to be half filled from the bottom with rock lava. The upper half will hold a mixture of 1/3 potting soil, 1/3 horticulture vermiculite of large size and 1/3 horticulture perlite of coarse grade.

For effective organic hydroponic, medium divider like coir fiber should be used between the layer of rock lava and the mixture. Now you need to place this container in the grow bed so that the water level is just slightly below the layer of soil mix.

The rock lava, which is submerged along with the secondary roots, will encourage the water flow upwards and thus the soil layer will always stay moist. The upper layer of soil can now be used to add nutrients directly to the primary roots of the plants.

This saves you from maintaining the ph and the ppm of the soil. However, you should be careful not to add too many nutrients in liquid form to the soil layer. Also you should not add excessive nutrients to the soil layer otherwise it may escape on to the layer of rock lava, messing your organic hydroponic gardening.
