It is really fascinating to see this red plump fruit like vegetable in a garden. Tomatoes are highly versatile, delicious and colorful and it is a real pleasure to share them with friends and neighbors.

Tomatoes are easy to grow and a must in every vegetable garden. Various books provide details on Tomato gardening tips. And yet it still amazed me that there are around 4,000 kinds of tomatoes out there and we are stuck with the red ones!

In spite of having so many wonderful ways to understand and learn Tomato gardening tips,we are still adapt to old methods and focus on growing it naturally, so as to avoid harmful chemical herbicides, fertilizers and pesticides.

When to Plant Tomatoes in your Garden.

Spring is the best and safest season to plant tomatoes as tomatoes thrive in warm weather and need about eight hours of sunlight a day. Each and every Farmer knows that the best Tomato gardening tip for planting is spring as an ideal season to grow the vegetable and Prune the Tomatoes .

Tomatoes are from the nightshade family (Solanaceae family) that contains various poisonous plants, the family is large, but it includes various edible plants.

Here are some of my very best gardening tips for growing tomatoes:

Growing Tomatoes from Seeds,

There is a general saying that “a good gardener sows 3 seeds - one for the bug, one for himself and one for the weather”. Therefore, if you want to grow tomatoes from seeds then you should sow your seeds indoors for about six to eight weeks during spring. Tomato seeds are highly sensitive and if planted directly, you would not get the expected results. The ideal temperature for germination is 85 degrees Fahrenheit and it usually takes around five to seven weeks before the seeds are ready to be planted in the garden. Depending on your gardening zone, you can plant your tomato seeds.

Soil Tomato Growing.

For good tomato gardening, have your soil conditions sorted out right. Tomatoes grow well in well-drained, humus-rich soil. Make sure that you dig lots of well-rotted manure or compost and don’t forget to add good quality fertilizer. You must neutralize your soil if you find it too acidic. The best way to determine the right kind of soil would be by examining the soil texture using the Electronic Soil Tester. Remember to always maintain at least 55 degrees to 60 degrees F and if you find the temperature is low then you should cover the tomato plants.

How to Space your Tomatoes

Tomatoes grow well if spaced well and the spacing technique generally depends on the variety of the tomato seeds. As per rules, tomatoes should be placed 11/2 to 2 feet apart, in rows.

Water- Tomatoes require good amount of water for growth, hence water them sufficiently. Once the fruit starts growing, you should lessen the amount of water so that the plant is coaxed to increase its sugar level.

Mulch Tomato gardening tips suggest spreading a thick layer of mulch around the tomato plant so that the plant retains its moisture level for longer duration.
