Pro Mix Potting Soil

Lightweight Pro Mix potting soil is a real heavyweight when it comes to its multi-uses for outdoor plots or indoor container gardens.

You can use the potting mix for seed beds, transplants, or re-potting. A special ingredient of Pro Mix potting soil is sphagnum peat moss that helps it retain moisture longer. The mix aids in providing soil aeration and drainage for supplying optimum growth to your plants. This pro formula is preferred by many seasoned gardeners throughout the world.

The ingredients list for Pro Mix potting includes: Sphagnum peat moss, vermiculite, limestone, perlite, and a wetting agent. The mix is highly recommended for seed bed trays, container gardens, houseplants, and hanging baskets. For the best results: fertilize plants a few weeks after seeding or potting.

Pro Mix soil & seeding mix is suggested for growing plants requiring a soil pH of 5.5 -7.0. The following steps are how to effectively use Pro Mix potting soil:

* Moisten the mix at application.

* Fill your pots, containers, or hanging baskets a third of the way full with pre-moistened Pro Mix potting.

* Remove your plants from their original containers and position them in the middle of the new pots.

Fill the pot with additional pre-moistened potting soil. Press the potting soil lightly around the plant root ball to firm plant into the pot and eliminate pockets of air.

Allow a 1 inch space at the top to leave room for expansion of the potting mixture.

* Water plant thoroughly after initially planting.

* Keep the potting soil moist for the first several weeks after transplanting. When needed, water generously for absorption by polymer crystals. During the growing period, supply plants with added nutrients by fertilizing. Typically fertilization begins a few weeks after planting.

One of the great best benefits of using Pro Mix potting soil is that you can add components to suit your soil conditions. For example, adding 10 percent of perlite supplies additional soil drainage and aeration. You can use 20% perlite for flower mixes. Up to 4 percent of kelp meal can be added to provide more plant nutrition.

For additional nitrogen, aeration, and other nutrients, up to 30% of worm castings can be added. You can add up to 2% Dolomite lime to help adjust the soil pH. However, some Pro Mix potting soil mixes already include lime in the mix so be sure to read the label before adding more. Pro Mix potting soil is mainly peat moss and as it breaks down the soil becomes more acidic. Lime is used to fight the lowering of the pH level naturally.

In general, many gardeners only need to add perlite to receive spectacular results. You can use as is or doctor it a bit to your own specifications. Generally, if a soil mix is peat based, then adding lime is required.

As the peat degrades the soil it becomes more acidic and the lime counteracts this. Keep in mind to read the ingredients and directions printed on the bag. Most soil's containing peat has some lime mixed in already but some do not.

You can discover a new way of gardening using premium quality mixes such as Pro Mix potting . Each mix ensures minimal plant maintenance along with optimal growth! The soils are available in compressed value packages to address your individual gardening needs at an excellent savings.
